This is the tribal dance of the nagpuri (Jharkhand) tribals. It signifies love for life, community living and sharing of joy. Nagpuri is the lingua fraca of the jharkhand state of India. The dances are unique in RAGA and TALA.
Their history....
Nagpuri is a dialect spoken by the people of Chhotanagpur which is also known as Sadoui dialect. The people who reside in Chhotanagpur later than the tribals of were - Ghasis, Machis, Lohars, Chamars, Kewat, Teli, and after them the Rajputs, Bamya, Sundi and Brahmins. The people used to live by the side of the tribal village. Their language was Aryan and mixed with the tribal languages it becomes a separate dialect known as Nagpuri or Sadami. This dialect is now the lingua Franca of Chhotanagpur.
The Dancers...
The people who have their culture and specialty dance traditions are mostly Ghasis, Machies, Lohars, etc. but now each and every caste are taking part in cultural activities but traditionally, it is with the Ghasis and Mochies.
The dances are unique in raga and Tala. Their dances are based on the Jhumar songs. They will sing and dance in such a manner that audience will be completely lost in their music and dance.
